"Channel 3's Kaitlynn Lebeau showing us how a group of lawmakers and medical doctors is trying to get patients away from the medicine cabinet and onto the chiropractor's table."
"Ohio lawmakers joined chiropractors Tuesday to talk about alternatives less addictive [and more effective and much safer] than opioids."
"Staff Sergeant Shiloh Harris shared his story about being severely hurt by a roadside bomb in Iraq. "I'm here to tell you that chiropractic saved my life." For years he lived a life of taking heavy doses of opioids and became addicted. He says chiropractic care gave him his life back."
Chiropractic is finally receiving the recognition it deserves as an evidence-based, safe, effective, non-pharmacological approach to safely manage pain and to restore healthy function and promote wellness.
What both the research evidence and the opioid crisis has revealed is the ineffectiveness and dangers of drugs and surgery as well as the ineffectiveness of physiotherapy for spinal pain and spinal health issues.
The only reason medical doctors were so open to prescribing opioids, which is for all intents and purposes heroin, is because both their clinical experience and the research revealed that the drugs, surgery, and referrals for physiotherapy that they had been prescribing for decades were ineffective and/or harmful.
TAKE HOME POINTS:
The tragic reality to face is that billions of dollars, millions of lost quality life years, and hundreds of thousands of deaths could have been prevented with referrals to chiropractors. It is sad that it took the opioid crisis to have medicine and lawmakers finally acknowledge the evidence for chiropractic. The evidence for chiropractic is not new, the fact that chiropractic care represents the best available option has been known for decades but just not accepted or acknowledged.
"On the evidence, particularly the most scientifically valid clinical studies, spinal manipulation applied by chiropractors is shown to be more effective than alternative treatments for low back pain." "Our reading of the literature suggests that chiropractic manipulation is safer than medical management of low back pain." (Manga, et al. (1993). The Manga Report: The effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of chiropractic management of low-back pain. Richmond Hill. Ontario, CANADA. Kenilworth Publishing (an Independent Report Commissioned by the Ontario Provincial Government).
However, it is very encouraging to see medical doctors and lawmakers finally recognizing the evidence for chiropractic and we all hope that this leads to a better future for patients!
